Councillors in Hanover need more time before making a decision on the expansion of a contractor's establishment southwest of Mitchell.

Reeve Stan Toews says Jason Fehr builds timber frames and homes off-site. His residence is at 35013 Reichenbach Road, near the intersection of McKenzie Avenue.

(Jason Fehr's business is located at 35013 Reichenbach Road.)In November 2014, Fehr received approval for construction of a 1,607 square foot shop. However, he rather built a shop that is only 1,120 square feet in size. Now he is seeking a 1,792 square foot expansion. According to Hanover administration, the intent is to use the building for office space and storage.

A public hearing on the matter was held July 11. Fehr was not present, but a neighbour was there to voice concerns. She says the contents on Fehr's yard are very visible from her yard, which is reducing the value of her property. This being a residential property, she also questioned when enough is enough and the construction on that property will end.

"I have questions but unfortunately the owner isn't here to ask them," said Councillor Gord Meneer at the public hearing.

According to Hanover administration, the business has been at that location for about four years and the municipality has not heard any complaints during that time. Administration recommended Council approve the application without conditions. Council agreed to send the matter to its Planning Committee before making a decision.
