Council for the Rural Municipality of Hanover has given first reading to a plan to borrow funds to cover the cost of several street paving projects in Mitchell. Reeve Stan Toews says the paving was done earlier this year but Council is now finalizing how the project will be funded.

The municipality will need to borrow $82,042 to pay for the paving of Lilac Street, Elm Street, Park Avenue and Birch Avenue. The 46 impacted properties will pay $4.37 per frontage foot per year. For a property with 100 frontage feet, their annual payment will be $437 for five years.

The municipality will also need to borrow $70,107.89 to pay for the paving of Walnut Avenue within Mitchell. The 49 impacted properties will pay $3.90 per frontage foot per year. For a property with 100 frontage feet, their annual payment will be $390 for five years.

Hanover Reeve Stan Toews says the Municipal Board is anticipated to rubber-stamp this plan. He notes within the Local Urban District of Mitchell historically, it is only residents living down those streets that pay for street improvements.
