Residents of Blumenort can expect to see a lot of work happen along Penner Drive South this year.

Council for the Rural Municipality of Hanover has approved a tender to have Penner Drive South rebuilt. There were seven bids and the lowest was from Maple Leaf Construction for $249,371. Hanover has awarded the contract to Maple Leaf Construction.

A second part of the project will see a portion of Penner Drive South realigned. Reeve Stan Toews says this will happen where the road curves.

“That curve, originally when it was constructed by Highways, was not in the proper place,” notes Toews. “So, it’s encroaching on private property.”

Toews says the road will be realigned further east. There were also seven bids for this project. The tender has been awarded to Fast Brothers, who had the low bid at $67,725.

According to Hanover Administration, the total budget for both projects was $385,000. The total amount for both tenders is $317,096.

Toews says the work is expected to happen this year.
