The LUD of Blumenort is one step closer to seeing the traffic lights installed at the intersection of Provincial Rod 311 and Highway 12.

Yesterday, Council for the RM of Hanover ratified the LUD committee's resolution to support the project. As previously announced, the province says it will be funding the entire project.

Meanwhile, Steve's Livestock is among a number of local trucking companies who are welcoming these long awaited changes. Chief Operating Officer Bill Rempel says they have several semi trucks traveling through that intersection day and night and adds this will be far more efficient for their drivers.

"For our trucks to turn north on Highway 12, it would be a significant improvement," says Rempel.

He notes the biggest inconveniences are at peak traffic times when it can be near impossible for regular traffic, let alone semi trucks, to turn north onto Highway 12 from the 311.

"It's also dangerous, so from that stand point, that's where the biggest improvements will be from a safety aspect," he adds. "As long as the traffic can flow smoothly through there, it'll certainly be a big improvement."

Manitoba Infrastructure has indicated it hopes to have the lights installed within two years.
