Councillors in the Rural Municipality of Hanover have indicated they would like to hold the line on taxes next year.

Reeve Stan Toews says they have begun to discuss next year's budget and councillors are suggesting only a cost of living increase for each department, with one exception. Toews notes there could be a slight increase in their transportation budget.

"We have a lot of traffic and a lot of our gravel roads they actually need more material on there to make them safer and better," he says. "That's why we're not ruling out an increase for transportation."

This comes on the heels of 2017 when the municipality budgeted an additional 10 percent or $292,000 on rural road maintenance. Of that, $160,000 was for additional gravel on roads.

The 2018 budget will only be finalized in March or April of next year.
