The Reeve for Hanover says they have heard from a ratepayer interested in opening an event venue along Ridge Road.

Mary-Anne Hart appeared before council earlier this month. She is seeking permission to allow an existing bed and breakfast structure as an event venue. Hart told council she would like to use the facilities and grounds for wedding receptions, corporate events and other similar gatherings, including a future mini rodeo.

The site is located west of Road 32 East. At the public hearing, a letter was read that had been submitted by a neighbour living east of the proposed site. This neighbour is opposed, noting concerns about noise and alcohol consumption and what this will do to their resale value.

Administration has informed Hart that if approved, she would need to redo the washroom facilities on site and the kitchen would have to be upgraded to commercial standards. Hart indicated her desire is for an occupancy permit through the Office Of The Fire Commissioner for fewer than 200 people.

Reeve Stan Toews says Hanover has a number of similar venues in the municipality. He notes some have gone over well, while others have fielded complaints.

Toews anticipates council will make a decision later this month.
