The Chair of the Local Urban District committee of Grunthal says residents shouldn't see an increase in taxes this year on the LUD portion of their bill.

The committee is planning to transfer $115,500 to their reserves in order to pay for a large capital project in 2019. Jim Funk says that project involves building up Wiens Road. Funk explains there are some shops along Wiens needing a heavier grade road.

"We want to build up Wiens Road so that we don't always have to drive past the school to get some deliveries done," he says.

Funk says there is about a quarter mile of Wiens needing repairs. The project should cost the LUD about $200,000.

Meanwhile, planned expenditures this year for Grunthal are $287,939, an increase of $48,741 or 16.9 per cent over last year. Currently, the projected tax revenue is $271,439, an increase of $4,846 or 1.8 per cent over last year. There will not be an increase in the mil rate.

Funk says because of the large project being planned next year, there are no capital projects happening in 2018.
