The Green Party has announced that Janine Gibson will be its candidate in Provencher for the 2019 federal election. Gibson runs her own business as an organic inspector and has been the party's candidate in previous elections. She says the Green Party has a lot to offer the people of Provencher.

Janine Gibson"In this day and age, we need to be smart with our economics. And to me, that means being smart with our environment and with our politics. No other party has done the thinking and the research with Canadians across the country to put together a policy document like 'Vision Green', that clearly outlines what our values are and how we feel we should accomplish those values to bring greater economic strength and environmental health and community health to Provencher and all the communities across Canada."

Gibson says she tries not to get frustrated with, for example, the resistance of many provinces to a carbon tax to encourage reductions in pollution. She adds politicians are generally trying to create a better future for their children and grandchildren so she tries to focus on areas where they have things in common where they can work together for a positive future.

"Yes, there are many aspects that are frustrating, but I am the kind of person who likes to light a candle rather than curse the darkness."

Gibson acknowledges the party is much more popular with the younger generations because they are aware of the need to build a diversified, green economy that has quality jobs and a clear plan for a sustainable future.

"They have real concerns for building a diversified economy and building quality jobs for their own future and the futures of their potential families. I think the smart economics of Green policies are really appealing to the young voters on a number of issues. They know that the Green Party is not just a one-issue party. We are talking about a whole paradigm-shift of looking at the consequences of all our choices and integrating how they can work together for a more sustainable social policy."
