One of the organizers of Frog Follies in St. Pierre says they are going to see how this year plays out, before deciding whether to keep it a shorter event in the future.

Barney Morin says they are trying to give festivalgoers more bang for their buck this year by turning the traditional Thursday to Sunday event into only Thursday to Saturday. One of this year's changes will see the popular frog jumping contest wrap up in a single day rather than spreading it over two days.

By condensing the festival, Morin says they are losing the Church service which normally took place on Sunday.

"Other than the Church service, I don't think there is anything that is going to be missing," he says.

According to Morin, it almost seems like the fact the festival is shorter this year is going unnoticed. He says nobody is really complaining about that and notes there was still lots of excitement in advance with businesses painting frogs in their stores.

Morin says Frog Follies is a homecoming for the community.

"A lot of families with kids will come back and they will make their kids jump frogs just like they did when they were little," he says. "It's fun seeing a lot of the grandparents help their kids jump frogs."

He adds it is special to have different generations come out for the whole weekend.

Morin says this will be a test year for the festival, as organizers determine how the event should grow.

"What can we output into two days?" says Morin. "And is that enough for the community or do we need that third day to give everybody a third opportunity to come out to the festival?"
