An hour and a half is a bit of a wait, but those who had the patience received an incredible meal on Sunday.

“We were pleased,” says Chad Engels, President of the Friedensfeld Community Center, regarding their Fall Supper Fundraiser. “I believe we sold roughly 530 plates.”

The plates were being sold at $18 apiece, but Engels says a number of attendants offered even more. “The contributions coming to the hall were overwhelming,” says Engels, “so it was really great because it’s a fundraiser for us to raise money to keep the hall open.”

Engels says they were even able to sell some of the leftover food after feeding the roughly 25 volunteers to help put on the event.

The dinner consisted of chicken, mashed potatoes, meatballs, cabbage rolls, perogies, coleslaw, a bun, and a slice of pie. “We had a lot of compliments that the vehicles smelt good once the food was put in the cars.”

Engels says his treasurer will be counting up the contributions over the next couple of days.

According to Engels, the proceeds will be used “to pay the bills and to keep the doors open for when we are able to have functions there”.
