The Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club had a better year in 2016 but is still bleeding red ink. The annual meeting was held Tuesday night. Club president Darren Klassen says over 21,000 rounds were played at the golf course last year, more than in each of the two previous years. But he adds it was still not enough as they lost over $100,000.

Darren Klassen"2016 was an improvement over 2015. We still do have a lot of work to do to bring in a balanced budget. We keep working to find alternative sources of revenue but that's difficult in the golf business. We ask a lot of the employees at the golf club to work within some very, very tight expense budgets. We just continue to work hard to find revenue while not spending more money."

Klassen says they are having a lot of success with their junior golf programs and that will continue this year because young people are the future of the club.

Meanwhile, Glenn Friesen and Darrel Penner were elected to the golf club board to succeed Nathan Mehling and Fred Pauls whose terms had expired.
