Two rural municipalities in the southeast are reporting the flood situation is not getting worse, even with all the precipitation received last week.

Louis Tetrault is Emergency Coordinator for La Broquerie. He says surprisingly, the situation has remained quite stable. He notes they were concerned about rising levels, but says right now everything is manageable.

Tetrault says they are currently keeping a close eye on the situation in Zhoda, particularly Bambi Bay where about a half dozen homes have been sandbagged. On Friday, resident Dez Marynowski put out a plea for people to help sandbag. At the time, Marynowski feared the water level could reach his home. As of Tuesday morning, he says his house is dry and in fact the water level is dropping. Marynowski says a big thankyou to all who came to help on Friday.

Tetrault says there are still more than 30 areas in the municipality where barricades are up because of water washing overtop of roads. Parts of four municipal roads are closed to traffic.

Anyone needing assistance is asked to contact 204-380-2224.

Meanwhile, over in the RM of Stuartburn, Lucie Maynard says finally the situation seems hopeful.

"It seems as though there is a little bit of glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel," she says. "Some areas have been seeing the water go down."

This last weekend, there was a concern in Lonesand as the result of the flooded Rat River. But, Maynard says water levels there have since dropped.

There are still at least three roads that are closed. They are Sundown road north from Sundown to Highway 12, intermunicipal Road 54E from PR 201 south for 1 mile and Franko Road South from Road 7N to road 2N.

Maynard says this week's forecast looks favourable.

"Hopefully so, because winter is just around the corner," she says. "And if it freezes like this, we're in trouble in spring."
