This weekend is the Provincial Firefighters Curling Championship in Steinbach and firefighters from all over the province are really enjoying the community and the curling rink.

Dan Michalchuk of the Winnipeg Fire Department says they look forward to the event every year and adds this year they are having a lot of fun in here in Steinbach.

"The community has been top notch, they've supported us and I'm very honored to be here in Steinbach. Kurt Martens of the fire department, along with Chief Kelvin Toews, they organized this and they did a great job. As for the facility, I've curled in lots of rinks in the city and this facility alone is top notch and the ice maker Wilf, he's fantastic."

Michalchuk adds it's nice to get out and reconnect with old friends and meet new ones as well.

"It goes with the job. Like us, the Winnipeg firefighters who come out of town, it's nice to see the new faces and talk with other firefighters. It's a big brotherhood so we all get along and we like hearing each other's stories of the calls we've gone to."

The tournament wraps up tomorrow afternoon with the winner will advance to the national championship in Thunder Bay.
