An early morning fire destroyed a shop near Marchand on Thursday.

The La Broquerie Fire Department received the 911 call at approximately 7:10 am. Crews were dispatched to the fire along Road 44 East, which is a few miles west of Marchand.

Fire Chief Al Nadeau says when they arrived on scene, the building was engulfed in flames. A plume of smoke could be seen above the tree line for miles around. Nadeau says his crews ensured the fire did not spread to any of the nearby buildings.

The fire had been called in by the homeowner, who says the shop contained approximately $60,000 to $70,000 worth of tools. Nadeau adds there was also a truck inside.

"Uninsured building," says Nadeau. "It's quite the loss for the family."

Nadeau says he is not sure what caused the fire but notes the Office of the Fire Commissioner will not be investigating.

There were no injuries.
