A fire ban is now in effect for the Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne.

Reeve Art Bergmann says despite the recent snowfall, the grass, as well as the woodlands, are quite dry and asks residents to refrain from burning trash and use extreme caution when making a fire in a pit.

"We don't want to be spoilsports or rain on their parade but when the wiener roast is over or when the fire in the evening is done, to dowse it with water and to make sure that the firefighter will be able to sleep all night rather than having to go and clean up stuff on their yard."

Bergmann adds the fire ban will be in place until further notice.
