According to vendors, the Steinbach Farmers Market has been a boon.

“I believe the season started out better than it ever has,” says vendor Dorothy Freund, “and it’s really been attended quite well.”

Freund’s farm lies just six miles south of Steinbach and she says it has fared well. “The season has been really, really good,” she remarks. “I guess we had rain at the right times this of the year, but there were a few veggies that didn’t do as well.”

Freund lists beets and carrots as the failing crop this year. “I guess they just didn’t want to grow,” offers Freund, “they just stayed small for no reason.”

ng before mentioning “the tomatoes were a total failure”.

“We just have green tomatoes here,” offers Steinnann, “they never made it, but life is still good.”

Regarding the market itself, Steinmann had nothing but good things to say. “We have lots of good vendors and it was a nice atmosphere. Lots of good buyers, which was important. So, we’re very, very pleased with how the market ran.”

Steinmann says his favourite part of the market is the customers coming back to tell him how much they enjoyed his produce and seeing the friendly faces.

In his words, “that’s what makes it worth it”.
