The Mayor for the Village of St. Pierre says she will not be running for office in the upcoming election.

Mona Fallis has been mayor for one term but has been on council since 2009. She says her experience on council has been one to remember but adds, for now, it's time to pull back a bit.

"I've been thinking of it for a while because my work is getting more and more busy and taking a lot more of my time and I feel to be a good mayor and fair to the community, the mayor should have time to be more hands on. That's something I don't feel I'm able to do at this time."

Fallis says she appreciates the support she's received from the community in her time as mayor and notes she's been able to interact with so many great people in her community. Fallis recommends that if anyone has the urge to get into politics, they should try because it is an experience you would not regret. She highlights some of the top projects she has been able to see realized in her time as mayor.

"As mayor, I think the expansion of the lagoon and making that a realization, I think has to be number one because that really adds to the value of our community. Our park has had a lot of new features like our splash pad. Those are some of the highlights. In the last five to ten years, we're looking at the future and see how we can grow and how we can help our community."

Fallis notes it's an honour to be able to serve her community in this way and adds she may one day make a return to politics if the stars all lineup.
