Over 4,400 students are enrolled in the Seine River School Division this year.

Superintendent Mike Borgfjord says that's up approximately 54 students from last year and they continue to see growth throughout the division, especially in Ste. Anne.

"We have two portables going into the Ste. Anne complex this year and Ste. Anne is one community that's really growing. That's one of the areas that we see dramatic growth in our schools. La Salle School, we're getting a big addition, that's hopefully going to go to tender sometime before Christmas. I think that will help us alleviate some of the pressures in that school."

Borgfjord notes with more subdivisions going up in the communities and birth rates increasing, they project continued growth for the next four to five years.

"Being just outside the City there's a fair number of people who choose to live just outside of Winnipeg and work in Winnipeg. We think we're going to continue to have steady growth anywhere from 1% to 3% per school year [over the next four to five years]."

He says the growth does put pressure on the division but it's better than the alternative.
