The Emerson Progressive Conservative Association (EPCA) is ready to move on from Cliff Graydon and will soon begin the process of finding someone to replace him as its nominee in the next provincial election.

Graydon was expelled from the PC caucus last month for inappropriate comments he made to a female staff member.

His removal from caucus means he now sits as an independent MLA for Emerson.

Association Vice President Jordan Siemens said the organization will need to begin planning for a nomination meeting to find the next potential candidate to represent the party in Emerson in the 2020 provincial election.

"There are some things that we need to work through first because of the changes coming from the Manitoba Electoral Boundaries Commission. By the end of December 2018, we are going to have new boundaries for what will probably still be called Emerson constituency. At that time the current EPCA will dissolve and there will be a founders meeting to elect a new board for the new constituency, and then we'll go about selecting a candidate from there."

According to Siemens, once the new Emerson PC Association board is in place, they will begin working with the Progressive Conservative candidate selection committee to hold a nomination meeting prior to the next election.

"There are people who are starting to float names around, but it is still early on. If people are interested they should come and talk to us. There is a process that has to be followed. They have to be approved by the candidate selection committee of the central PC Party first before they can start campaigning. We're looking at mid to late 2019 in terms of having a nomination meeting."

In the meantime, Graydon is the sitting MLA for Emerson and anyone who has concerns or questions about legislative matters would need to contact him, said Siemens.

Anyone with questions about issues related to the PC Party should speak to EPCA board members.
