A natural gas line was ruptured at a residence along Stone Bridge Crossing in Steinbach Saturday morning.

Crews from Centra Gas work to get the line under controlEmergency services were called to the home around 10:15 A.M. Steinbach Assistant Fire Chief Russ Reimer explains what happened.

"Looks like a homeowner was doing some home repairs and he was digging with a little backhoe in his driveway toward the front of his house and he caught his gas line and ruptured it. We are just in the process of waiting for Centra Gas to get that line under control. We also have removed an animal from the home and brought it to the homeowner for safety."

Reimer says Stone Bridge Crossing was blocked off between Home Street and Maplewood and firefighters checked all of the surrounding homes that could have been affected by pooling gas to make sure everyone is safe.
