The Town of Niverville has put forward three play structure design concepts for Hespeler Park that each take inspiration from historical Niverville buildings.

Angela Janz is the Recreation Programmer for Niverville. She says the proposed playground would be built near the existing splash pad and would include a few features including a play structure. She notes the proposed designs are all inspired by Niverville’s heritage.

"I love the idea of incorporating some of Niverville’s history as far as some of the more heritage looking ideas that have been presented like the grain elevator or the barn or the tractor. Those things are really cool and I think it also promotes a high level of imagination and interactive play for children."

The design concepts are based on the historic Niverville grain elevator, an old barn from the area, and historic Niverville downtown businesses. She notes the goal is to make Hespeler Park a more well-rounded destination for families.

"With the splash pad there and with the increased usage of the baseball diamonds and the soccer fields, it has kind of been a common theme, like what can the other kids do while they are there. This is something that is kind of a common sense need for the area.”

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says they held an open house, asked for residents feedback, and will now decide how to proceed.

"We have not yet had the chance to discuss the design, the cost, a plan to implement, these kinds of things. That will be happening in the next few weeks ahead here as council looks at it and decides what they would like to do and how that would be implemented, whether that is all at one time or over a period of years."
