Last night’s Turnip the Music concert at Neufeld Garage was a big success and it was put on by Steinbach’s Creative Youth Council.

Sydney Rempel is a member of the Creative Youth Council. She says their goal is to support young artists in the community and get involved in planning local events.

"So we have a variety of people of different ages from teenagers to young adults and our goal is just to create an event for young people and so they have us because we have a good perspective cause we are also young."

The Turnip the Music concert featured local bands Sweet Water Creek and The Boy & The Sea. Rempel says they have a good group on the Creative Youth Council right now and they hope to plan more events in the near future.

Cindy Rempel Patrick is the Chief Creative Officer of the Steinbach Arts Council. She says the Creative Youth Council is one way to make sure the Steinbach Arts Council will be in good hands in the future.

"Part of the mandate of the board is to make sure that we are sustainable and that our arts community continues to flourish and we need young people to step up and be part of these committees, to help plan epic events, to have a voice. Definitely, the future of this Steinbach Arts Council lies with the young participating and being active in the arts community. This council is achieving those goals."
