There are a number of major town projects that are currently underway in Niverville.

Mayor Myron Dyck says one of the largest road construction projects of the summer is the rebuilding of half of Sixth Avenue South. He notes that work is disrupting traffic in the area but it should be completed sometime next week. He adds the first half was redone last year and the whole stretch from Highway 311 to Crown Valley Road will be paved in 2019.

Dyck says residents of Fifth Avenue Estates may have also noticed large pumps near the lakes.

"The lakes in Fifth Avenue Estates are used as retention ponds and with the dry spell we have had here the last couple of years, our wetlands project is essentially a drylands project and so we are taking some of the water that we have in our lakes and we are pumping it into our wetlands to ensure there is a certain amount of water for the creatures that we are wanting to provide a habitat for."

Dyck says the lakes in the Fifth Avenue Estates development have ample water right now and wells to replenish them if they get low.

Dyck says Niverville Main Street has received a bit of a facelift this summer with sections of sidewalk and boulevard reconstruction wrapping up this week. He notes this work a big part of town council’s plan for Main Street revitalization. He says there will now be sidewalk working done near the towns water treatment plant.

"When we did the water plant upgrade, the project over the last year and a half, part of the sidewalk got removed due to pipes and stuff that needed to be trenched in. Now in the fall, when it is a better landscaping season than in the heat of summer, things like the sidewalk and some soil and see will repair what was torn up to complete that project."

In addition, Dyck notes the Hespeler Park ball diamonds now have new covered dugouts, paving just wrapped up on Third Street, and a number of large private projects are underway including the new Niverville High School, and a new strip mall on Drovers Run.
