Toys Days wrapped up Thursday night at Canadian Tire in Steinbach and a spokesperson for Community Christmas says they are so grateful for the huge number of toys that were donated. Roger Blatz expects they will be close to having enough of them so that every local child in need will receive a gift at Christmas.

"I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled up and saw the mountain of stuff here. I just got to rifle through a bunch of it and put it into bags to haul back to our headquarters. And, man, it's going to be exciting. There is a lot of Lego and Nerf guns and dolls and fishing rods and hockey sticks, balls, there's everything. It's really great to see."

Blatz says they'll know in a couple of days whether they have enough toys for all the hampers. He notes requests for Christmas hampers this year have hit an all-time record high with 950 applications. Blatz appreciates the wonderful support for Toys Days.

"It's all the people that came by, took the time, all the people that brought their children to teach them about giving. It was just awesome to see people bringing their kids, getting them to pick stuff out, kids coming and spending their own allowance and birthday money. It's a great feeling. There's just so much emotion attached to all of it. We just thank the whole community and the surrounding communities. We know that it's not just Steinbach, there are a lot of people coming from other communities around here that are giving here as well."
