Steinbach City Council has approved another drive-thru variance, this time for a Burger King.

Chief Administrative Officer Troy Warkentin says the property in question is located in the Millbrook Market Development near the RCMP detachment.

"The purpose of the variant is to allow a drive-thru to locate within a portion of the front yard setback of a property in a CMX or Commercial Mixed-Use zone whereas the city's zoning bylaw does not permit drive-thrus to locate in the front yard setback."

ever explicitly mentioned at Tuesday’s council meeting, however, it is clearly labelled on the proposed site plan.

In addition, a spokesperson from Ontario-based Redberry Restaurants has confirmed that this variance request was on their behalf and they plan to build a Burger King.

According to the conglomerate, "The development will be approximately 2600 square feet and will be one of the first restaurants that we are building that features double drive-thru lanes. Right now, construction is planned to start mid-October 2022 with an opening date of mid-December 2022, however, these dates assume that there are no supply chain interruptions."
