A Kindergarten student from Hanover was dropped off at the wrong bus stop after school Thursday and did not know the way to his house.

When the child did not return home at the usual time, his mother began searching and soon found him standing on the neighbor's driveway, confused and very cold.

The Hanover School Division says they are aware of this event and consider it serious. In a statement to Steinbach Online, Assistant Superintendent Shelley Amos indicated the following.

“HSD can confirm that we had some confusion with a bus stop during a drop off yesterday [Thursday]. This is of utmost concern to us, and we take it very seriously. Our priority is always the safety of the child and we strive hard to communicate as soon as possible with parents to problem-solve and resolve the concern. We believe we have been able to do so in this instance.”

Amos says the incident serves as a good reminder to be “extra diligent with processes and communication pertaining to safety and transportation”. She notes the division will be reviewing its procedures on bus safety protocol and make any necessary changes to ensure child safety is maintained.
