After 29 years representing Marchand on council in the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie, Wilf Chabot is not running for re-election this year.

Chabot says the population of the municipality has more than doubled since he was first elected and all that growth has brought a lot of change. He notes being on council used to be a lot more simple.

"I find that it is quite a bit harder to do stuff now than it was when I first started,. For example, when I first started we were designated so much money in each ward so we could do whatever project we wanted to, we still kept a record of how much we spent, so it was easier to do stuff, now it is more complicated."

Chabot says when he first joined council in the R.M. of La Broquerie, there were only gravel roads in the community of Marchand but 29 years later, he is proud to say that many roads have been paved and upgraded. He notes over the years he has worked on many projects that have improved Marchand.

"Our community centre has doubled in size, when I first started, all it was was an old school that was renovated into a little hall but it wasn’t very big, didn’t hold very many people but we doubled the size of it and right now it is in very nice shape, it looks more like a new building."

Chabot says at the age of 75, this is a good time to step aside and let somebody younger take his place on council. He says he is satisfied with where Marchand is right now and comfortable with the direction it is going.

Chabot thanks everyone who voted for him and supported him over the last 29 years on council.
