The General Manager at South-East Pallet & Wood Products in Blumenort says it is business as usual following Monday's fire.

Steinbach Fire Department was called to the scene at approximately 5:45 pm.

Deputy Fire Chief Ron Chausse says the fire happened inside one of the milling buildings. Chausse says there was significant damage to the building and equipment.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner says saw dust caught fire from welding slag or hot metal embers, extending to a rubber conveyor belt. It has been ruled accidental. The estimated loss is $400,000.

General Manager Sjoerd Huese says operations continue and no staff were laid off. He adds deliveries to customers have not been impacted, nor will they be impacted.

"We're hoping to maybe take advantage of some improvements as a result of this," says Huese. "We have a pretty positive outcome on this whole thing in the end."

Chausse says there were no injuries as no one was inside the building at the time of the fire.
