A small car caught fire at the corner of Highway 12 North and Provincial Road 210 shortly after 2:30 Monday afternoon.

Ste. Anne Assistant Fire Chief Roger Pelland says the driver pulled onto the side of the road on the turnoff into Ste. Anne when they saw smoke coming from under the hood. He notes the whole car went up in flames.

"It was a little hard to put out because the gas tank ruptured and it kept burning and we kept putting foam on it and eventually it went out."

Pelland says Highway 12 remained open but traffic into Ste. Anne was diverted while firefighters extinguished the blaze. He adds the driver of the vehicle was not injured.
