There will be a commotion on some Steinbach streets late Friday morning. The Canada Summer Games torch will come through the city on its way to the games in Winnipeg. The torch relay run will start around 11:00 at the Manitoba Hydro office along Highway #52 and travel east to Brandt Street, then south to Reimer Avenue, east to Main Street and back to the Manitoba Hydro building.

Kelly Chabot of hydro says 16 runners will take part and some of them are making a big deal of it including Steffan Reimer, a teacher at Mitchell Elementary School.

"He's pretty excited and it sounds like he's going to have a bunch of his students run alongside him. There are going to be about 21 students that will run with their teacher holding the torch."

He adds about 150 students from the Mitchell school will also be there to cheer them on.

Ryan Canada of Hydro says there has been a lot of interest in the torch relay from participants and their family and friends.

"Our age range is from six to 56. The age range is huge and then there are people with different stories. Some of the stories are amazing and that definitely helps with the mood of the games and the torch run."

Drivers are asked to be mindful of the torch run as it takes place from 11:00 a.m. to noon.
