La Broquerie Councillor Cameron Peters has announced he is running for reeve in the October Civic Election.

Peters was elected to council for his first term four years ago. He says he has spent his time on council getting to know the amazing people of La Broquerie as well as many of the decision-makers in the provincial and federal levels. He adds serving the community has been both challenging and rewarding.

Peters says he is committed to growth and fiscal responsibility.

"Cost control is important but not to the detriment or sacrifices of essential services. We hear time and time again from our residents that the services that they require are good roads, they want drainage, and above all, dust control. Dust control is something that I was instrumental in implementing more of in our community, it saves our roads, and eliminates gravel in people’s hamburgers when they are dining on their decks after work."

Peters says he will continue listening to residents so that they can spend their tax dollars on what is important to them. He notes he believes in forward-thinking progress and a collaborative process.

"We have a community that has grown tremendously in the last couple of years in population, it has grown in business and we have an absolutely fantastic community that is growing and striving. Moving forward, I would like to continue that growth by bringing in some ideas that we have observed both in Canada and Globally through different avenues and people that we get to meet in our travels."

One thing that Peters highlights as a priority over the next four years is implementing a 5-year infrastructure plan for the municipality.

"We have made great progress this term but in the past, a lot of our systems have been fix when necessary or band-aids. Moving forward we would like to progress with a plan so that we know which project is next. We want to do that first of all in our road planning and in our ditch planning which isn’t all that exciting for everybody but it is very important."

Peters says as the municipality shifts and changes, it is important that the perspectives of council change as well and he believes he is the right person to help move the community forward. He notes it will be his honour and pleasure to serve La Broquerie as reeve in the upcoming term.
