A burn ban has been reinstated in the Rural Municiaplity of Stuartburn.

The burn ban put into place on August 31 this summer was lifted on October 3 and then put back into place Tuesday night.

Chief Administrative Officer Lucie Maynard explains the burn ban was put back into place because council felt the high winds Wednesday would cause the land to dry out and they are wanting to be proactive when it comes to preventing the kind of wildfires seen in October a few years ago, which, she adds, devastated the area.

"I wasn't here at that time but I'm aware that it was countless hours of our fire department as well as council and other emergency personnel fighting to save homes. Unfortunately, I believe three were lost in that fire, back in 2012/2013. So, they just really don't want that to happen again."

This ban includes all types of fires such as recreational fires and stubble burning. The municipality says any current burn permits have been canceled.
