After years of work, the Bipole III transmission line has finally entered commercial service.
Construction began on the Southeast portion of the project in fall of 2016 with the new line now running south near Provincial Road 206 to Highway 52 then east past Highway 59.
Manitoba Hydro Spokesperson Anthonie Koop says the project has been going well and is right on schedule.
"Even though Bipole III entered commercial service on July 4th, which means it would have started operating as part of our electrical network, there is still some work that needs to be done. Probably the most significant is we are still working on the installation of some major equipment at the Riel Converter Station. There are four synchronous condensers that will operate there and there is still one synchronous connector that needs to be completed."
Koop says work in the Southeast has largely been completed and the system will be fully functional in the near future.
