The Niverville Youth Baseball Association has been given approval by Niverville town council to proceed with plans to build batting cages in Hespeler Park.

Ron Hiebert is the President of the Niverville Youth Baseball Association. He notes they are currently in the planning and fundraising stages of the project but hope to build batting cages with one or two lanes somewhere between the ball diamonds so they are accessible. He notes they would greatly improve their baseball program.

"Some of the parents from the younger age levels, they are just looking for a way to get some more hitting time. When you are running around chasing the ball it really reduces the time that the kids can actually spend hitting the ball and with the diamonds being used as much as they are, this is just another avenue that we can use for practice time."

Hiebert says they are currently trying to raise around $8,000 for the project. He notes Niverville has a well established and thriving baseball community.

"We revamped the program probably about eight years ago, we had about 80 kids sign up and I think the highest level we had at that point may have been the peewee age which is U13. Fast forward to this year, I think we had about 155 kids sign up and we had pretty much all of the age levels."
