Arborgate School in La Broquerie has its first case of COVID-19.

“The staff and students have been supportive,” says Principal Sandra Meilleur, “and the community has also responded in a supportive way.”

Meilleur says they had staff, resource teachers, and administrators make phone calls to alert parents of the positive test. “We were all scripted something to say,” informs the principal, “so the message would be consistent.”

Meilleur says some of the parents expressed anxiety but that it was nothing out of the ordinary for a caring guardian.

“We’re following all of the Manitoba Health guidelines and all of the protocols that were set in place,” says Meilleur. “We were prepared and we continue to be prepared.”

Meilleur says she is grateful for the cooperation that she has encountered among staff and parents alike, in attempting to appease government asks.

“There has not been one person who has criticized the protocols and the policies,” she offers, “and with what happened yesterday, everyone has been very supportive, even in the questions they are asking.”
