Operation Red Nose St. Malo is officially through its first weekend and the coordinator says they are all smiles.

Charmaine Gosselin their teams gave nine rides and safely brought 15 people home while raising $205. She notes they went to Arnaud, Niverville, Ste. Agathe, Kleefeld, Grunthal and St. Malo.

"We were thrilled with this weekend," says Gosselin, "We came in with low expectations knowing that we are just starting and usually the first weekend is the slowest and then it picks up from there."

"When our first phone call came in on Friday we were all like fist pumping and we were just so happy that our phone line actually rang that quickly," says Gosselin as she explains the excitement of her team when they got the call at 9:15pm, only 15 minutes into the night.

Gosselin adds they still have volunteer spots to fill for upcoming weeks including New Year's Eve when they will need the most. To sign up, Gosselin encourages people to call 204-746-0263.

Gosselin says she seems to have noticed a bit of a culture shift in the way couples and friends go out to events in the holiday season. She notes people are not necessarily having the discussion of who will be driving as opposed to just going carefree and calling Operation Red Nose at the end of the night.

Meanwhile, this weekend La Broquerie gave 39 rides to 72 people and raised just shy of $1,000.
