A malfunctioning plane sustained only minor damage after it performed an emergency belly-landing on Thursday, August 16, at Harv's Air.

Operations Manager Adam Penner says the problem was a simple failure of the metal in the landing gear’s sprocket.

Penner notes the flight instructor who landed the small aircraft, along with their student, did a fantastic job landing the plane in a calm and controlled manner which left it relatively unscathed. “The plane had a little bit of minor damage, some of the skin on the belly of the airplane is a little roughed up, but overall it is in good shape.”

Penner stresses that this kind of situation is rare, and that planes are incredibly safe vehicles. “It was a fender bender really, we’ll fix up the airplane and we’ll move on.”
