The clock is rapidly ticking down to the municipal election October 24, just nine days from now. There will be an advance poll this week in Steinbach. Deb Rempel, senior election official for Steinbach, says it will take place at the Hanover School division office on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. She explains who is eligible to vote.

"You have a to be a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age on or before October 24th and either an actual resident of the city as of April 24th or a registered owner of land in the city."

Rempel says there is also another option for people who won't be able to vote on election day.

"Right now, we are also taking applications to vote by sealed envelope. They can come into city hall or call city hall for a ballot and we would issue them a ballot or we can mail it to them. And as long we have it by the close of the poll on the 24th, then their vote will count."

Rempel says people who are not on the voter's list can still vote.

"Identification may be required before being allowed to vote. If you're not on the voter's list, you would have to take an oath and produce a form of identification, maybe produce a piece of government-issued photo I.D. or they might want at least two documents that provide proof of identity."

The regular election poll on October 24th will be held at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Rempel notes there are just over 9,000 eligible voters in Steinbach.

The Town of Ste. Anne will have an advance poll Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The RM of Tache will hold its advance poll on Wednesday at the municipal office from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The RM of De Salaberry will hold its advance poll Wednesday at the municipal office from 8:00 a.m. to 8;00 p.m. The RM of Stuartburn will have its advance poll Friday at the municipal office from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The RMs of Hanover, La Broquerie, Ste. Anne, Piney and Ritchot held their advance polls last week.
