Builders and developers in Steinbach were not slowed down much by the cold, snowy weather in February according to the city's building permits statistics. Deputy Mayor Michael Zwaagstra says $3.95 million dollars worth of building permits were issued despite the harsh conditions outdoors. He told city council this week that this was a better-than-average February.

"This is a good set of numbers for February. I should note that the largest project by far is an apartment complex that is being built for $2.8 million. But when you have the month, at almost $4 million in February, that bodes well, because the winter months tend to be our lower numbers for building permits."

The new apartment block is being built on Parkview Crescent and will have 22 suites. There were also starts on two single-detached homes last month.

The city has already issued $6.5 million worth of building permits in the first two months of the year with starts on 31 housing units.
