A new water source has been found for the Town of Niverville.

Mayor Myron Dyck says town council accepted the proposed well field at Tuesday's council meeting. He notes the new water source is located near the corner of Crown Valley Road and Willow Ridge Road one mile west of New Bothwell.

Dyck says the search for a new water source was done by Friesen Drillers, adding Niverville is sharing the cost of the project with the province.

"It hasn't been tendered so there is no definite cost yet. We have an engineering estimate of $2.5 million which will be shared 50/50 by the province and the Town of Niverville. From the Town of Niverville, it will come from various funds and reserves but will not involve borrowing by the Town of Niverville so it will come from existing pools of money."

Dyck says the new well field is currently undergoing three days of testing to determine the flow rate and the capacity of the reservoir. He says if the tests are positive they can move forward with the project.

"We could see construction for the fall. We will come up with up 50%, the province said they will come up with their 50%, that way at such a time that we are able to put in the pipeline and the well field, we can go forward based on all of these tests meeting the criteria that the province has."
