A $700,000 intersection improvement project has been completed for Provincial Road 311 at Krahn Road in Niverville.

Morris MLA Shannon Martin says the province is contributing $353,500 to the 50-50 cost share project with Sunset Estates, a Morden based company which has done a lot of work in the Niverville area. Martin notes this intersection has seen an increase in traffic over the years due to the new Shell station and Tim Horton's as well as the residential area and golf course to the south.

"It's becoming a bit of an issue in terms of the need for safety improvements. So, by partnering with Sunset Estates and putting in almost three-quarters of a million dollars, I think we're going to achieve those improvements to enhance safety and access of 311 onto Krahn."

Len Peters, vice president of Sunset Estates, says they were able to create merging lanes on the south side of 311 to help improve safety.

"The reason for building the turning lanes was to enable higher levels of traffic into the subdivision and into the commercial area, including the golf course. So, with the turning lanes there now, that opens the door for us to continue further phases and more development in the subdivision as a whole."

Peters notes traffic signals were not a part of the design concept for this project, however, he adds it's something that may potentially happen in the future. The project began in June and Peters says it took about two months to complete.

He says this project will be beneficial as the next phase of the Highlands subdivision has started.
