The Lorette Skate Park has been awarded a $35,000 grant from the provincial government.

Yann Boissonneault is the head of the Lorette Community Development Corporation Skate Park Committee. He says the Lorette Skate Park is part of their long-term plans for a community complex. He notes it is located just east of the Lorette Arena.

The Lorette Skate Park phase one“It is approximately 4,000 square feet and right now we completed phase one and that is what we received the funding for. The project needed to be complete by March 31st so we did qualify for that. Phase one includes everything for the skate park except the bowl which is another feature that we will be adding this year.”

Boissonneault says the $35,000 grant will pay off around 25% of the full cost of their first phase. He notes this skate park project is very important for the youth of Lorette.

“There was a consulting report done a few years back that really highlighted a need for more recreational activities for the local youth which represent over 25% of Lorette’s population and the surrounding areas. Lorette has got aging infrastructure, an aging arena, aging features for kids so it was super important that something new comes to the Town of Lorette.”

Boissonneault says the $35,000 grant announcement was a wonderful surprise. He thanks the residents of Lorette, the Rural Municipality of Tache, and the provincial government for their amazing support.
