Construction of the La Broquerie Lagoon Tertiary Project is finally underway as council has now awarded the earth-moving contract.

The project has faced a number of major delays including a provincially mandated heritage study to ensure there were no human remains or historically significant artifacts on the construction site. The $4 Million natural treatment system will use bulrushes and cattails to pull unwanted nutrients out of wastewater.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says Ste. Adolphe based H. Baudry Construction will complete the groundwork for just over $2.8 Million. He notes the earth moving should be finished by the end of the 2018 but the project will most likely not be fully operational until next year.

"We have to run the piping from our existing lagoon to our water treatment tertiary and obviously, there will be a building, there will have to be a pump and a few other technical things. All the plants have to be planted yet, so I am sure it will be over the next few years before everything is operational with all of the plants in place and growing to the point where they are working properly."

The new tertiary lagoon project is being built just southeast of the La Verendrye Golf Course.
