The Red River Wild will meet the Ste. Anne Aces in the Carillon Senior Hockey League final.

Marshall Cox made 29 saves as the Wild defeated the Springfield 98's 4-1 in the seventh and deciding game of their semifinal in St. Jean.

"It was a really tough, long seven game series that each team could have won basically every game," said the Red River goaltender. "It feels really good. A big relief in the dressing room."

Wild forward Tyler Pchajek scored the lone goal of the first period.

Chris Stelmack's power play goal at 18:15 of the middle frame tied the game at 1-1.

Jay Roberts potted the go-ahead goal for Red River with 11 seconds left in the second period.

Josh Sabourin and Cole Brunet added third period goals for the Wild.

Springfield defenseman Drew Anderson said Cox was the difference in game seven.

"He made some huge stops for them coming across the net," said Anderson. "Couldn't put it past him unfortunately."

The 98's kept their season alive last Friday as they edged Red River 3-2 in overtime in Oakbank but couldn't finish the deal on Wednesday in St. Jean.

"We weren't good enough tonight," said Springfield coach Cory D'Ottavio. "We didn't leave it on the ice and that's the name of the game. We weren't willing to pay the price again. I don't think we gave our best and they did and that's why they win the game."

The Wild and Aces will play game one of the best-of-seven final tonight in Ste. Anne.

"It's going to be interesting," said Brunet. "We finish up tonight and then tomorrow is a new day. You start from scratch with game one. Even though it's back-to-back days, there's no excuses. It's time to win these games."

The defending champion Aces swept the Grunthal Red Wings in four straight in their semifinal.
