The Steinbach Pistons had a strong start to the Showcase being held in Winnipeg with a solid 6-2 win over the Virden Oil Capitals on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pistons got on the board first off the stick of an unlikely source. Rookie Will Cruise got his first career MJHL goal as he snapped the puck from the high circle, giving the Pistons a 1-0 lead. Bradley Schoonbaert and Ryan Carlson. Virden answered back on the power play and the period ended in a 1-1 deadlock.

In the second period, Steinbach showed off long stretches of dominating puck possession and it led to a pair of goals for Wyatt Hinson. His first of the afternoon came just :26 seconds into the period, with the Pistons on a power play, he muscled his way to the front of the net and chipped in a loose puck to push the lead to 2-1. For Hinson, it was his first as a member of the Steinbach Pistons. His second came later in the period, as again, he showed off his nose for the net as he battled the puck in to give Steinbach a 3-1 advantage. Mark Taraschuk and Joseph Leonidas picked up the helpers on the first marker by Hinson while Carlson notched his second assist of the day on the other.

Steinbach went into the third period holding a 3-1 lead. The Oil Capitals picked up another goal on the power play in the third period to cut the lead to 3-2 but Tyler Anderson quickly got Steinbach the two goal lead back as he snapped home a wrister from the point to make it 4-2. Mack Graham picked up the lone assist on the goal. The Pistons kept the pressure up and were rewarded with a power play goal for Bradley Schoonbaert from Mack Graham and Taraschuk. Taraschuk completed a 3 point afternoon with a goal of his own with just over a minute to go in the game, sealing a 6-2 win.

Roman Bengert was solid again as the 20 year old made several nice saves, especially on the penalty kill and picked up his 19th win of the season. The power play finished 2-5 while the penalty kill was 3-5. Shots were 41-27 Pistons.

Steinbach has one more game at the Showcase, it's a matchup with the OCN Blizzard on Wednesday afternoon, 3:00pm at the MTS IcePlex.
