The Eastman Female AAA Midget Selects used three goals in the opening 20 minutes and strong goaltending late to defeat the Central Plains Capitals in Portage La Prarie Friday night.

The Selects came out flying in the first and opened the scoring less than six minutes in when Maddy Desrosiers found the back of the net to make it 1-0. Liza Vigier and Laci Gaffray had the assists on the opening marker.

The lead was increased with a pair of goals in quick succession.

Desrosiers notched her second of the period unassisted and then forty seconds late, it was Jade Giesbrecht with an unassisted goal that pushed the Selects lead to 3-0.

In the second, the Selects got into penalty trouble and called upon their special teams unit to do the job.

They did.

The short-handed unit was able to kill off almost a full 2:00 5 on 3 against plus multiple minor penalties.

Central Plains was able to get on the scoreboard in the second and cut the lead to 3-1 after 40 minutes.

In the third, the Capitals continued to push looking for any type of scoring to get back into the game.

Selects netminder Emma Plett stood tall and her key saves at big moments spurred the Selects to keep putting pressure on the Capitals.

Late in the period, Central Plains pulled the goalie and were able to score with the extra attacker to cut the lead to 3-2.

That's as close as they would get though as the Selects held the fort to come away with a big 3-2 win.

Streaks Extended

Emma Plett, a Grunthal native, finished the night with 31 saves giving her a personal three-game winning streak.

Maddy Desrosiers, named 2018 Team Manitoba U16 team captain, had two points on the night and pushed her point streak to 4 games (3 goals, 2 assists) and now has 8 points in her last 8 games.

Liza Vigier of Beausejour continued her point streak as well and now has points in 4 straight games (2 goals, 4 assists).
