The Eastman Selects won their regular season finale Sunday afternoon in Morden.

Burke Heide scored a power play goal 4:40 into the third period and Curtis Brule added an insurance marker with 5:19 remaining in regulation as the Selects defeated the Pembina Valley Hawks 4-2.

"The boys came up big," said Heide. "It was a good late push by us."

Braydon Brown got Eastman on the board scoring a shorthanded goal in the first period and Preston Seymour had a power play goal in the middle frame.

"Definitely nice to get the win today," said head coach Dennis Senebald. "We got a nice big win against the Thrashers the other night and then to come back with the effort the boys had today - we like the way we're looking going into playoffs for sure."

The Selects, who won 25 games and finished the season in a tie for sixth place with the Central Plains Capitals, will face the Winnipeg Thrashers in the best-of-five quarterfinals.

Eastman dropped three in a row before beating the third place Thrashers 3-2 in a shootout Friday in Beausejour and then finished off the regular season with that big road victory over the fourth place Hawks.

Coach Senebald would like to see his team repeat the effort he saw in those two games when they start the Manitoba "AAA" Midget Hockey League playoffs this weekend.

"Our defense has played really well. The power play is starting to click. Lots of passing out there and moving our feet. We've told our boys all year that five-on-five we can play with any team in the league and they've showed that the last two games beating two very good teams."
