The Eastman Selects gave up three second period goals and dropped a 6-2 decision to the Saskatoon Stars Saturday at the T.G. Smith Centre in Steinbach.

The Saskatchewan Female AAA Midget Hockey League champions swept the best-of-three West Regional series in two games straight and move on to the 2018 Esso Cup in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia from April 22nd - 28th.

Anna Leschyshyn had pair of goals for Saskatoon while the rest went to Kaitlin Jockims, MacKenna Parker, Kianna Dietz and Jayda Sachs.

The Stars dominated game one as they defeated the Selects 7-0 Friday afternoon.

Eastman put in a spirited effort in game two.

“We played a lot better,” said Selects forward Chelsea Dinnin. “We came together as a team and did a lot better than we did in the first game.”

Dinnin and Samantha Christensen did the goal scoring for Eastman.

Selects goaltender Raygan Kirk made 39 saves.

Stars netminder Jordan Ivanco faced 19 shots.

“We knew we were up against the wall,” said Eastman head coach Bill Bram. “They’re a good team. They move the puck well. They won Saskatchewan for a reason. We had some good chances. We didn’t have a lot of shots but the chances we did have were good. We tried our hardest – that’s all we can ask.”

It was a memorable 2017-2018 season for the Eastman Selects who won their first Manitoba Female AAA Midget Hockey League championship and played into the first week of April.

“That’s a first,” coach Bram said with a smile. “We’re proud of that. Hopefully next year we can keep it going.”

The Selects raised $700 on Saturday for a GoFundMe account set up to help the families and those affected by tragedy involving the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Humboldt Broncos. 15 people died when the bus taking the Broncos to Nipawin for game five of their semifinal with the Hawks was hit by a westbound semi-trailer Friday night near Tisdale.
