The Eastman AAA Female Selects are heading into the playoffs on a hot streak after wrapping up the regular season with a pair of wins this past weekend.

Shootout For Everyone

The Selects had a hard-fought battle with Westman on Saturday night that resulted in a tie game after regulation and overtime plus 9 shooters in the shootout before Eastman came away with a thrilling 2-1 victory.

The game was very close right from the start with both teams getting their chances early and often.

Scoring first was key for the Selects as they got on the board thanks to Hunter Mason. Mason was lodged in tight and after a point shot from Laci Gaffray made its way through the traffic, Kylie Lesuk fed the open Mason who gave the Selects a 1-0 lead.

Westman was able to tie things up before the period ended and it was even after the first 20 minutes 1-1.

The second and third resulted in numerous chances for both teams but neither could find the back of the net again and they headed into overtime tied still from the first period.

Four on four overtime solved nothing and the teams would need a shootout to decide the winner.

One Of The Longest Shootouts Ever

It turned out to be one of the longest shootouts in hockey history going an astounding 18 rounds before finding a winner.

In the breakaway challenge, Mackenzie Dixon and Liza Vigier scored to keep the shootout going for Eastman.

It took until the 18th round but finally, the Selects pulled out the victory thanks to Vigier scoring the winner.

Raygan Kirk was spectacular in the game making 19 saves on the night and several more in the shootout as she collected the win.

Regular Season Wrap

The Selects carried their winning ways into Sunday's contest vs Yellowhead as they skated away with 4-2 victory to end their regular season and go into playoffs on a happy note.

Eastman was focused on playing a strong, two-way game vs Yellowhead and came out with a purpose.

Kylie Lesuk scored on a loose puck in front of the net making it 1-0. Jade Giesbrecht and Alex Bednar had the assists.

More later in the period from the Selects as Hunter Mason scored for her second consecutive game as she buried a shot top shelf capping off a two on one with Lesuk. Giesbrect started the play with the breakout pass and notched her second assist of the game.

In the second, the lead grew on the power play when Lesuk scored to make it 3-0. Camille Enns and Mackenzie Borgfjord were given the assists as the Selects were up 3-0 after two.

Yellowhead came roaring back and scored a pair of goals to cut the lead to 3-2 but with the net empty, Liza Vigier scored to put the game away with the lone assist going to Ryann Suchy.

Raygan Kirk picked up her second win of the weekend making 51 saves.
