The Steinbach Regional Secondary School will play in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League's Free Press Division championship final.

Graham Cruise scored twice and Oliver Peters stopped 24 shots as the SRSS downed St. Paul's 5-2 Wednesday at the T.G. Smith Centre.

Parker Janz, Nolan Peters and Matthew Broesky also scored for the Sabres who swept the best-of-three third round series in two straight games.

"It feels very gratifying to be in the championship finals," said SRSS head coach Lawney Penner. "The boys have worked hard to get to this point and deserve the chance to play for the championship. Many of the boys have gotten to the semifinals the past two years and to push through to the finals this year feels great. I'm proud of the boys."

The Sabres, who finished the regular season schedule with a 15-game winning streak, are undefeated in the post-season.

"We're 6-0 in the playoffs for a few reasons," said coach Penner. "In the first round we had different players contribute at different times in the series to push us past Shaftesbury. In round two our goalies were the best players on the ice both games. They got us past College Beliveau. Against St. Paul's we came up with a game plan as a team and the boys bought in and executed it to near perfection. It's been a lot of fun and we're excited for the finals next week."

The SRSS will meet either Springfield or Transcona in the championship final which begins Monday at MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg.
